John's contribution to Swedish golf cannot be overstated. For an astonishing 19 years, he served as the chairman of the PGA, leaving an indelible mark on the organization. Alongside Christer Lindberg and Karl-Axel Lunell, he played a pivotal role in the transformative development of the PGA during the 70s and 80s. What was once a membership primarily composed of PGA instructors evolved into a force to be reckoned with, as Swedish PGA members began winning tournaments on both the European Tour and the PGA Tour in the USA. John loved to play and talk golf.
Furthermore, John's dedication extended beyond the success of the PGA. He genuinely cared about the growth and progress of Swedish PGA Tour Players. His unwavering passion for improvement knew no bounds, and his commitment will forever be woven into the fabric of WTPO's programs. Our journey towards change commenced in 2022 when John, myself, and twelve other like-minded individuals signed a motion to be presented at The Swedish PGA annual meeting. We dared to question whether we were satisfied with the trajectory of PGA Tournament Players' lives over the past two decades, and we sought ways to enhance their overall well-being. Fueled by our concerns, we embarked on the creation of WTPO, a Sports Union that unites all athletes under one inclusive umbrella.
Regrettably, John will not be present to witness the realization of our collective efforts. However, his spirit will forever serve as our guiding light, illuminating the path towards a brighter future for all those involved in the world of sport. For John's lifelong commitment to golf and sport generally, WTPO will honor him as the Nordic Region Honorary Chairman in remembrance.
We send our prayers to John's family.
